Marvelous May is here!

Wow!  Invention Convention was absolutely amazing.  Students demonstrated high levels of creativity and thinking.  Presentations were informative, and students answered questions with poise and confidence.  I was so proud to watch and listen to students' explanations.  Thank you parents for your support with this project.

All of us enjoyed attending the Symphony.  We really appreciated the pizza and Eegees upon returning to school.  Thank you Page Chancellor Marks for providing the Eegees.  :)

On Thursday, May 16, we will be celebrating the 40 Book Challenge at Brandi Fenton Park.  Students will leave school at 10 AM and return at 2 PM.  We have reserved Ramadas B and D from 9:30 to 2:00.  We want to invite all parents to attend and celebrate with us.  Children may wear a swimsuit to school under shorts and a t shirt.  They need to bring a change of clothes if they plan on participating in water games and enjoying the water feature.  A detailed letter with a permission slip was sent home on Friday and is due back by Friday, May 10.  Page Marks volunteered to send an email sign up letter to all parents.  Please consider joining us.  The kids were very excited to hear parents could also attend.  :)

On Friday, May 17, children may bring board games to school.

Mrs.Sipe, our PE teacher, will be having water day with our class on Monday, May 13.  Students need to bring a change of clothes etc. for that event.

Thank you for all you do.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Fondly,

Kathleen (Kathy) Smith

Wow!  It's May and the school year is coming to a close.

Important Information:

On Wednesday, May 1, inventions are due for the Invention Convention.  Parent invitations should have arrived home.  Please ask your child if you have not seen an invitation. If you have any questions, please contact your child's science teacher, Mrs. Moricz.

On May 1st we will also be attending the Symphony.  Upon returning to school, students will enjoy a pizza treat for lunch.

You will receive information about a special event on May 16th.  It is a reward for all of the hard work children have put in to meet the 40 Book Challenge this year.  Parents are invited, and more information will be sent to you.  Please do not make any dentist/doctor appointment on that day.

On Friday, May 17, students may bring board games to school.

Our students handled the AIMS testing, and they actually survived.  :)

I continue to appreciate all of the wonderful parent support I have received throughout the school year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.  Once again thank you for sharing your amazing children with me.

Happy April....

We began to review for the AIMS test.  Fourth grade will be testing next week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Please try to be on time for school.  Students may bring gum labeled with their name.  Snack donations would also be appreciated. There will be no homework during this week.

Students began a study of the Revolutionary War.  They are working with a partner to research a topic and present information to their classmates.

Please encourage your child to read 20 minutes each night.  We are making excellent progress with the 40 Book Challenge.  Hooray!

Our class continues to practice kindness each day, and I appreciate the effort.

Thank you for all of your support.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Fondly,

Kathleen Smith

Happy Spring Break....

Today we saw an amazing Civil War presentation by Manzanita's fifth graders.  Our class (and you) have a wonderful experience to look forward to for next year.

The U.S. Symbol Projects are wrapping up.  We have enjoyed hearing and learning about the symbols. The use of the Smart Board for slide presentations has been outstanding.  I am so proud of the effort by the students.

Progress continues to happen with the 40 Book Challenge.  Many students have completed the challenge or are very close to completion.  Way to go, fourth graders....

Spelling tests will not take place until after AIMS.  Our AIMS tests are on April 15, 16, 17, and 18.  We will ask for snack donations, and students may bring gum to chew during the testing.  Wow!

Our next field trip will be to the Symphony on May 1.  Can you believe that May is not far away?

Have a relaxing week away from school, and I'll see you when school resumes on Monday, April 8th.  Thanks for all of your support.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Terrific Tubac Trip...

Parents, thank you so much for all of your help to make our trip to Tubac so successful.  We learned a lot  and had fun at the same time.  Be sure to ask your child about his/her favorite part.  We are sharing some of the pictures from our trip with you.  Please enjoy.
